Let’s start from your record, Hearts and unicorns, why this title?
I was explaining to my friend Joe what I wanted the artwork to look like and he said “that would make a good album title” and I was like “hot damn, you’re right”.
It seems you have a kind of perky feeling, similar to artists like pixies, or actual New Pornographers, do you feel in the same musical chest with these groups?I have no idea how to categorize this band. I’m really bad at explaining music, in any way. I do love the Pixies, never really heard the new pornographers though.
You know there is this “o.c. soundtrack” sensation, it is composed by indie-alternative artists, catchy and glamorous. Do you think you’d like your music to be played as a background of something like that?Or do you feel your songs just in your album, in that contest, made to be played song after song?
I would love one of our songs to be used on The OC, I love that show. A lot of my friends have had songs on the show and it makes me jealous because they don’t even like the show.
Your favourite song of your record?
The hidden tracks, they’re so stupid, I love it.
Your current listenings?
The Lilys, Supergrass, the Zombies, the grates, bobby vinton
Looking at your tour you’re gonna play in a lot of festival, there is someone you’re curious to see onstage? What is your feeling about presenting your music to a festival audience?
We’ve played two festivals so far and they’ve been great. I thought I didn’t like festivals but after playing Coachella in American and the two euro ones I think I’m changing my mind.
There is this new wave of shoegaze, part of it are groups like your one, amusement parks on fire, what do you think about it?
It has been an influence for you both?
I don’t think I’ve heard any of those bands. Its better than the post punk revival, I guess. I don’t consider us to be very shoegaze, especially live.
I read the NME compared your voice to kim deal’, I mostly see resemblances with Tanya Donnelly but a little more personal. do you see your voice like an instrument? What are you going to transmit singin?
Yeah, I gues I do see it as an instrument. I try to take care of my voice, I do some warm-ups before shows because my voice is pretty fragile and will start going out half way into our set if I’m not careful. I guess I’m trying to transmit some sort of emotion but mostly I want to transmit something that doesn’t sound bad.
Whose artists do you feel more related to?
I really don’t know
Are you going to come to italy soon?(of course we wait)
Italy is the place I want to come the most, micah too(he’s Italian) but I don’t know of any plans to play there. No one tells us anything until the last minute so you’ll probably know we’re playing before we do.
Your lp was one of the best debut album for 2005. try to describe in five words your music to someone who never listened at you
Quiet, loud, guitar, drums, synthesizer
One last thing before we quit, greet the people that is reading you now, if you want toCongratulations on winning the world cup semi-final last night! Go Italia!
Thank you so much
